Exciting News for Neptune Beach!!! Pete’s Bar and Jensen’s Market are Receiving a Florida Historical Marker!!!
Neptune Beach Preservation is thrilled to announce that our application for a historical marker for Pete’s Bar and Jensen’s Market (now Shorelines) was approved! Florida’s Historical Marker program, run by the Florida Division of Historical Resources, raises public awareness of Florida’s cultural history and the people and places that helped shape the Florida that we all enjoy today.
Pete’s Bar is a legendary Neptune Beach icon that defines the character, charm and history of our city. Right next door, Jensen’s Market (now Shorelines) is truly where it all began.
You probably have seen other historical markers around the Beaches featuring Flagler’s Continental Hotel, Doolittle’s 1922 record flight, the first settlers at Ruby Beach (Jacksonville Beach) and the infamous World War II German U-boat landing. Now, two of our local landmarks are joining that prestigious list!
The marker will take 6-7 months to be manufactured and shipped. Once it arrives and is installed, we will host an unveiling ceremony to commemorate this exciting event.
We wish to thank the owners of Pete’s Bar, the City of Neptune Beach, Nancy Jensen, Cord Byrd and the Beaches Museum for their help in making this dream a reality!
